Set-up Whole Year Group Blog Steps 1 -2

I have decided write about my experiences with set-up a blog for the whole of Y6 (82 students and 20 teachers). I am using edublog Pro accounts and over the next few weeks will tell you about the positives and problems I have encountered.

Step 1 : To give a presentation to the Y6 team and convince them that a blog would work well with the term trial of the new curriculum IMYC . I used this PREZI below:

The presentation went well and the teachers began to realise that not only our students needed to have a positive digital footprint but also the teachers for their future career. This was an interesting conversation and turned a few teachers heads to actually start to listen and change the way we integrate technology into our classrooms to benefit students and teachers of the future.

Step 2 : Started to setup the accounts, it was pretty easy using the schools credit card. We decided to buy 4 Pro blogs and each blog allows you 50 Pro-blogs and 10GB of memory. The only problem we had was trying to decided how to set up each domain name blog as Y6 is part of the Prep School and each class has a class tutor who is also their English/History teacher. The rest of the time they are taught by specialist teachers. We decided to make each blog domain name their tutor group which we think will be easier to manage and also give each specialist teacher access to all the blogs. This problem would also arise with Secondary students, so think carefully how to set up each blog as it must be easy to manage or teachers will not be on your side and tend not to use it.
